The Trump administration has taken a flurry of actions to drive up deportation numbers as part of its large-scale immigration crackdown. These efforts include expanding the group of people who can be targeted for removal, speeding up the deportation process for others and, in some cases, tightening the rules for legal immigrants. 


How Trump Has Targeted New Groups for Deportation

Trump wants to end temporary protection for over a million immigrants. What does that mean? 

Millions of people, many from nations facing serious human rights crises, live legally in the United States under various forms of temporary legal protection. Many have been targeted in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. On Monday, the Supreme Court allowed the administration to end protections that had allowed some 350,000 Venezuelan immigrants to remain in the United States. That group of Venezuelans could face deportation. 

Attorneys say U.S. immigration authorities appear to have begun deporting migrants to South Sudan

Immigration authorities appear to have begun deporting migrants from Myanmar and Vietnam to South Sudan despite a court order prohibiting removals to third countries, attorneys for the migrants said Tuesday. Up to a dozen people from several countries may have been deported to Africa, immigration rights lawyers told a judge. An immigration official in Texas confirmed in an email that at least one man from Myanmar had been flown to South Sudan Tuesday morning, according to court documents.
