As we close out this week, the Collaborative is back with another Stories of the Week recap for June 6th – June 13th. From live updates on the protests in Los Angeles, California to a Massachusetts teen being returned home after being held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody; these are the top stories impacting the well-being of immigrants this week. – Sophia Benavente

L.A.’s immigration raid protests reach 7th day; state’s effort to block military deployment faces test in court

Hundreds Protest Outside ICE Headquarters in New York City 

A group of protesters rallied near a building that houses an immigration court in New York City, which has become a flashpoint amid the arrests of migrants in courthouses. Hundreds of protesters demonstrated in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday evening against President Trump’s immigration crackdown, continuing several days of protests that began more than 2,400 miles away in Los Angeles.

Federal agents are arresting migrants at immigration courts in the Trump administration’s latest tactic to fast-track deportation. Attorneys say immigration enforcement officers have been waiting in immigration court buildings and arresting migrants who have had their cases dismissed. 

Soccer Fans Fear Being Targets of U.S. Immigration Raids

Soccer fans are foregoing travel to the United States amid President Trump’s immigration policies, which are shaping up to affect attendance for next year’s World Cup, the most-watched event in sports. The 2026 World Cup is expected to draw about 6.5 million people, mostly to the United States, where most matches will be played (Canada and Mexico are co-hosting the tournament).

Britain’s experiment with liberal immigration policies is over

In April, Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer gave a forceful speech about immigration. Migrants should be celebrated, he said, for they make a “huge contribution.” Far from being a burden on public services, they are often the very people delivering those services.
