Dr. Blanca A. Ramirez currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. Dedicated to advancing scholarly understanding, her research focuses on the intricate interplay between state structures, such as law and policing, and their impact on group perceptions of the U.S. immigration legal system, agency, and the broader implications of these dynamics.
Dr. Ramirez’s work has been recognized with multiple awards and has been featured in publications like Social Problems, Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education, and the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. She has garnered support for her research through prestigious programs, including the National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship, the Ford Fellowship Predoctoral Fellowship program, and the Haynes Fellowship Foundation.
Driven by a commitment to equity, her essays have found platforms in USC’s Equity Research Institute, and the Latino Center for Leadership Development, and have been showcased by the Center for New Immigrants.
Dr. Ramirez earned her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and completed her undergraduate studies at California State University, Fullerton.
