Vanessa Delgado is an immigration scholar who draws on longitudinal qualitative methodology to examine how immigration laws shape the lives of Latino/a immigrants and their children. Her research uncovers how parental exclusion harms US citizen children and positions them to take on substantial family duties over their life course. In a new line of research, she is exploring how older Latino/a (un)documented immigrants and their adult children contend with a diminishing social safety net in rural areas. She has published numerous award-winning studies in leading peer-reviewed journals including Social Problems, Journal of Marriage and Family, and Sociological Forum. Dr. Vanessa Delgado holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine.
