Employers across industries including construction, hospitality, agriculture, and healthcare are warning that the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of immigrants is creating significant labor shortages and disrupting business operations. The loss of legal work authorization threatens the financial stability of immigrant families while reducing employment opportunities, increasing economic insecurity, and limiting access to stable livelihoods for affected communities.

Employers Fear Labor Shortage as Many Immigrants Lose Protected Status

Most Americans say Trump has gone too far on US immigration: Poll

A new national poll found that a majority of Americans believe the Trump administration has gone too far with its immigration enforcement policies, including deportations, although most Republican voters continue to support the administration’s approach. Growing public concern over aggressive enforcement may increase pressure for policy changes while highlighting the emotional stress and uncertainty experienced by immigrant communities affected by heightened immigration enforcement.

States sue over Trump policy of sharing benefits data with immigration authorities

More than 20 states filed a lawsuit challenging a Trump administration policy that would allow federal immigration authorities to access personal information from families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits, arguing the policy violates federal law and could discourage eligible families from seeking assistance. The policy may increase fear among immigrant and mixed-status families, reducing participation in essential public assistance programs and worsening financial and health outcomes for vulnerable households.

Immigration crackdown threatens Haitian caregivers and the seniors who rely on them

The end of TPS protections for many Haitian immigrants is placing thousands of caregivers at risk of losing their jobs or being deported, creating staffing shortages in nursing homes and home care services that depend heavily on Haitian workers. The policy not only jeopardizes immigrant workers’ financial security and legal stability but also disrupts critical care for elderly and disabled Americans who rely on these caregivers.

Trump discusses Europe’s migration crisis and UK energy policy

President Trump argued that Europe’s migration policies have contributed to security and governance challenges while also discussing energy policy during remarks focused on international affairs. Statements linking migration to broader political and security concerns may reinforce negative public perceptions of migrants and influence support for more restrictive immigration policies in both the United States and Europe.

Ceuta: EU calls borders a ‘shared European responsibility’

Following the large-scale migrant crossings into Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta, European leaders emphasized that protecting the European Union’s external borders is a shared responsibility requiring greater cooperation among member states and with Morocco. The renewed focus on border enforcement may result in stricter migration controls that make migration routes more dangerous while limiting access to asylum and humanitarian protection for people seeking safety in Europe.
