The U.S. Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for roughly 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians, ending deportation protections that had allowed them to live and work legally in the United States. The decision increases uncertainty for affected families, raising the risk of deportation, family separation, and economic instability for many long-term immigrant residents.

Supreme Court Allows Trump to Block Asylum Seekers at Border

The Supreme Court upheld the administration’s “metering” policy, allowing border officials to turn away asylum seekers at ports of entry and limit access to the U.S. asylum process. The ruling makes it significantly harder for people fleeing persecution or violence to seek protection in the United States and may leave many migrants stranded in unsafe conditions while awaiting legal options.

Federal Judge Bars ICE From Making Arrests in Immigration Courts

A federal judge blocked a Trump administration policy that permitted immigration enforcement officers to arrest people attending immigration court hearings, finding the practice unlawful. The ruling may help restore confidence in the immigration court system by reducing fears that immigrants could be detained while appearing for required legal proceedings.

Senator warns Trump plans to deport over 500 immigrant children

Senator Ron Wyden and other lawmakers raised concerns about the treatment and deportation of migrant children, questioning whether federal agencies are adequately protecting vulnerable minors in immigration custody. Increased scrutiny of these practices could lead to stronger oversight and safeguards for migrant children, though concerns remain about the risks they face during detention and removal proceedings.

UN rights chief calls for probe into migrant deaths in US detention centres

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights called for an independent investigation into deaths that have occurred in U.S. immigration detention facilities. The request draws international attention to detention conditions and may increase pressure on authorities to improve accountability, healthcare access, and protections for detained migrants.

Thousands seek way out as South Africa braces for anti-immigrant protests

As anti-immigrant demonstrations were planned across South Africa, thousands of migrants sought ways to protect themselves amid fears of violence and discrimination. Rising anti-immigrant sentiment can increase insecurity, social exclusion, and economic hardship for migrant communities while limiting their access to employment and public services.

Swedish businesses reported labor shortages and recruitment challenges linked to stricter immigration policies, while right-wing political parties continued advocating for tighter migration controls ahead of elections. The debate highlights how restrictive immigration policies can reduce opportunities for migrant workers while also demonstrating the important economic role immigrants play in addressing workforce needs.
